The second draft of the Fairmont Area Schools Educational Improvement Plan for 2008-09 has been posted for your review and comments. Following is a link to this draft:

The SDCC, School Board and Cabinet have each met to help develop this plan to date. Please note that there are two levels of goals being suggested. The "Strategic Goals" are designed to be a comprehensive guide for the district while the "Central Goal" is designed to call all of us to action to ensure that every one of our students have excellent reading and literacy skills.
Please study this plan, discuss this with your peers and post your comments on this Blog.

Thanks to everyone that contributed to the development of this plan.
To address individual excessive absences, we may have to deal with families with siblings who also are frequently absent. Home visits will probably be required. At the high school, reading in the content areas is essential. This instruction should be embedded in the curriculum for each course. It won't happen overnight, but we "gotta get it done".
